Valley housing market holding steady

Median prices remain firm as unsold resale inventory growing

Coachella Valley real estate prices held firm in October, with the median sales price of $375,000 matching September's figure, according to data released Tuesday by research firm DataQuick Information Systems. The total 1,036 properties sold during the month was down 17.2 percent from a year ago.  However, fulfilling local experts' projections of a soft landing for the market, the overall year-over-year appreciation rate was 17.6 percent, as the valley remained popular with buyers from coastal regions where prices are higher.   That appreciation is down from 28.6 percent seen a year ago and the peak 33.5 percent posted in the second quarter of 2004, but still beats the latest Southern California average of 15.4 percent, according to DataQuick.  See the full article...
