How is my mortgage broker paid?

A mortgage broker is paid a fee, usually a percentage of the loan amount referred to as a "point."  There is a lot of fraud and mortgage scams in the marketplace and the FBI is reporting nationally that mortgage fraud has tripled nationwide.  Read an interesting article posted in the Los Angeles Times recently December 5, 2005 about mortgage fraud.
